Feeling a bit insecure in your relationship?

Maybe you have wanted marriage counseling for a long time but your partner hasn't been willing to go. Maybe they've been willing, but it seemed impossible with conflicting work schedules. Or perhaps you want to work through things from your past first before trying marriage counseling. Whatever the case may be, you're probably feeling anxious, insecure, and simply unsure what to do to improve things. Perhaps you’re even wondering if your relationship is healthy for you, and if you should stay in it.
Whatever it is that you’re experiencing, you’re beginning to notice the impact of this stress in every facet of your life:
  • You feel drained and are holding back tears all the time.
  • You find you are becoming more and more irritable with your kids and partner
  • Worrying and loosing sleep over the future of you marriage.
  • The stress is so much that you are having a hard time concentrating at work and at home
  • You try to do all the self care things that are good for you, but it just fees like more work than actually helpful
  • And then all this make you frustrated with yourself and the self-critical spiral starts
  • You probably wish you could just not feel anymore.

If this sounds like you, then you are in the right place.

Individual counseling can help.

It may feel impossible now, but you can feel less overwhelmed by your emotions. You can stop the inner critic and have more self acceptance. You can have more clarity in you want, and feel comfortable being yourself. And I can help you get there.

Individual Counseling for Anxiety, Relationship Anxiety, and Marital Concerns helps you do 4 things:

Picture
  1. Clarify emotions so they feel more clear and less chaotic.
  2. Help you communicate clearly and calmly in your relationships.
  3. Replace your inner critic with a compassionate supporter.
  4. Help you trust your own inner wisdom so you can be certain in yourself regardless of external circumstances.
I’ll help through this process, tailoring each step to your unique needs and circumstances. My approach to individual counseling comes from a place of support and encouragement : believing that you have all the answers you need inside you, you just need to find them.

In individual counseling, you'll learn to transform your emotions from critical chaos to confident clarity in yourself, your inner wisdom, and your decisions.

What you will learn in Individual Counseling with me:

My approach to individual counseling is based on a combination of Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Through these approaches, we will work to help you have clarity and a deeper understanding of your emotions, let go of self critical thoughts, and discuss ways to improve your relationship even when your partner isn't willing to work on it.
We'll deep dive into:
  • Discovering how unconscious relationship beliefs have been impacting you and your marriage, and
  • Exploring underlying emotions you haven't been aware of
  • So you can rebuild your confidence in yourself, what you want, and your decisions
  • Helping you speak your truth in clear ways that both honor your true self but also promote effective relationship communication
  • All while enhancing your self-compassion and self-acceptance, and
  • Building a new relationship with yourself, so you can bring all of your parts to your relationships
  • ... and so much more!

FAQ

I am committed to a non-judgmental experience. I look through a lens that honors what makes us human. We are relational beings, hard wired to connect. What makes us different is where we want to be especially open, curious and never presume we are experts. I welcome all, including sexual orientation, relationship status, age, race, disability, ethnicity/national origin, gender identity and religious/spiritual affiliation.
What are individual counseling sessions like?
At this time, all sessions for Virginia Beach are online through zoom. In-person sessions are available in Fallon, Nevada. Our first few sessions will be spent getting to know one another, and making sure we are both clear about what you are hoping to get out of the experience. We'll talk lot about feelings to help you get clarity and work through any painful feelings keeping you stuck. We will also help you clarify what you want out of relationship and how to communicate clearly about your needs. Through this process you'll be learning tools to use in your day-to-day life. If needed, I'll offer referrals to other disciplines, such as psychiatry, primary care, etc. Most of all, I will hold space for you to have all of your experiences versus just trying to work through them on your own.
What type of Individual counseling to you do?
In individual counseling, I use a combination of Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). I'll help you build more awareness and understanding of your emotions, so you have more access to your inner wisdom, and can use that wisdom to interact confidently in your relationships.
How long will I need to be in therapy?
I meet with clients weekly and each session lasts for 45 minutes. It is hard to know how long therapy will take as many things impact how quickly progress can be made. Ultimately it is up to you how long you are in counseling. We will only continue if you are feeling that the therapy is helping you.
What if I need to reschedule?
I work with clients on a weekly basis during a day and time that is reserved for you each week. You are financially responsible for the that time slot for the duration of our work together. However if you need to miss a session, I am happy to reschedule you into an open slot during the same week, or doubling up by having two sessions the week before or after your designated appointment time. My attendance policy is detailed in your intake paperwork and I'm always happy to answer any questions you may have.
DO YOU TAKE INSURANCE?
I am an out-of-network provider, which means that I do not bill insurance. I am happy to offer you the necessary paperwork (superbill) to file with your insurance provider for possible partial or full reimbursement.

Please know that not all insurance plans offer reimbursement and that some may have a deductible or an allowable amount. It is best to call the number on the back of your insurance card and speak to a representative about what your specific benefits are. A list of questions to ask your insurance company can be found on the Counseling FAQS page. It's also good to know that insurance companies typically only reimburse if the client has a diagnosable mental health condition. If you have questions, I'm happy to talk this through with you at any time.

Medicare: Elizabeth Polinsky and Elizabeth Polinsky Counseling do not participate in any health insurance plans, HMO plans or panels, and cannot accept Medicare in any form. Clients of Elizabeth Polinsky cannot attempt reimbursement of services through Medicare. WHAT ARE YOUR RATES?
